The Monzo Debit Card
I use the Monzo bank card to make payments when travelling in Europe.
This is the cheapest and easiest way I have found and avoids some of the horrible charges made by other banks and especially credit cards.
This is essentially a debit card, on to which you load funds in sterling.
When you spend in Euros, the payment will be automatically converted into sterling and taken from your card. The exchange rate is good and there are no transaction fees – great!
The app which comes with the account is excellent and you can track your spending within seconds of a transaction.
You can draw up to €200 a month from any ATM machine and Monzo doesn’t make any charge. Draw over the €200 limit, there is a fee.
